Company History

Murfitts Industries Limited was formed in late 2001 in order to establish the UK’s newest and most up to date tyre recycling facility at Littleport, Cambridgeshire. The desire to give some form of environmental benefit coupled with legislative drivers opened up a market and business opportunity to enter the tyre recycling field. The implementation of the EC Landfill Directive and the End of Life Vehicle Directive means that some 450,000 tonnes of tyres per annum need to find a home and landfill could not be one of them. Recycling and recovery would be the only options available.

Two years researching the available technologies world wide resulted in the final choice of plant and equipment. This plant gave the versatility to produce a range of products from all types of tyres and to recycle all the elements which form part of that tyre including the rubber, steel and fibre. Each element of the plant was chosen so that when brought together it would give the right balance of productivity, quality and economics.
